Parents May Not Receive Notification of COVID-19 Exposure in Classrooms

The province will have new rules regarding contact tracing and testing when kids head back to class next week.

Some new guidance will be in place next week surrounding contact tracing and testing within schools.

A Ministry of Health document indicates that only kids and education staff who show symptoms of COVID-19 will be provided with take-home PCR tests.

The kits will be given to students or staff who have chills, a cough, shortness of breath, a fever or loss of taste or smell, or two of the less common symptoms like muscle aches, a runny nose or a sore throat.

This means that children exposed to a classmate who has symptoms of the virus will not receive a test.

Anyone waiting for the results of a COVID-19 test or who cannot access a test, must isolate at home with the rest of their household, regardless of their vaccination status.

The document also says parents shouldn't expect a notification if a classmate of their child tests positive for the virus.
