OPP Lay Over 14,000 Charges During Traffic Safety Blitz

During Canada Day week, OPP lay 14,068 charges for offences such as speeding, stunt/racing and impaired driving.

Over 14,000 charges were laid by OPP during last week's traffic safety campaign.

Officials say more than 8,000 speeding charges were laid.

As well, motorists racked up 175 charges for stunt/racing, 322 for impaired driving, and 167 for distracted driving.

During the campaign, the OPP engaged with people driving cars, off road vehicles and boats, focusing on safety concerns surrounding life jackets, seatbelts and helmets.

More than 1,000 charges were laid against people who failed to adhere to these safety measures.

In total, four people were killed in road collisions, and one person died in an off-road vehicle incident.
