Ontario Reports 7,951 New COVID-19 Infections

Province reports 3,220 patients hospitalized with COVID-19, including 477 in ICUs.

Ontario is reporting a drop in new COVID-19 infections. 

Throughout the province, there are 7,951 new cases and 21 new deaths today. 

There were 45,451 tests completed yesterday. 

Currently, there are 3,220 patients battling the virus in hospital, including 477 in ICUs. 

For the first time, the province has revealed more details behind the hospital and ICU numbers, indicating the 54 percent of the hospitalizations are people admitted to hospital due to COVID-19, while the rest were admitted for other reasons but have now tested positive. 

Meanwhile, 82 percent of the ICU patients are there primarily due to the virus. 

To date, more than 26.8 million vaccinations have been administered, and 91.1 percent of Ontarians 12 and older have at least one dose. 

As well, 88.5 percent are fully immunized.
