Ontario Kids Aged 5-11 Eligible For First COVID-19 Booster Shot Tomorrow

Starting tomorrow, parents can book booster COVID-19 shots for children aged 5-11.

Children aged five to eleven can soon get their first COVID-19 booster shot.

The announcement was made today by Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore.

Starting at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow, parents and caregivers of children in that age group can book an appointment for a pediatric COVID-19 booster on the province's booking portal

Kids will be able to receive their first booster dose at least six months after their second shot.

The announcement comes as kids prepare to return to school next week.

The province is also updating public health guidance to manage COVID-19 during the fall.

Highlights include staying at home if you have symptoms of COVID-19, and self-monitoring for symptoms if you have been in contact with someone who tests positive.

"While we are updating our public health guidance, preventing COVID-19 and other infections is vital to keeping our families, schools and communities safe and healthy," said Dr. Kieran Moore, Chief Medical Officer of Health. "I strongly encourage all Ontarians to take advantage of vaccine and booster doses that are recommended and available to them, which now includes the availability of a booster dose for children aged five to 11. Ontarians are also encouraged to protect one another by respecting public health guidance, including staying home and taking precautions if you are sick."
