One Assaulted in St. Catharines Grocery Store Theft

Good Samaritan assaulted after reporting suspected robbery to grocery store employees.

Police want your help identifying a suspect wanted on theft and assault charges. 

On March 16th, officers were called to a theft in-progress at Food Basics on Hartzel Road in St. Catharines. 

Investigators say a good Samaritan spotted a man stealing items from a shelf and told employees. 

The Samaritan followed the suspect into the parking lot, where an altercation took place. 

The suspect pulled an aerosol can from his pocket and sprayed the victim in the eyes, resulting in minor injuries that didn't require medical attention. 

The suspect fled the scene in a dark coloured 4-door Mazda vehicle. 

The suspect is described as a white male about 40 years old. 

He is approximately 5'7" and has a medium/heavy build. 

He was carry a black duffle bag and wearing a black baseball hat, blue jeans, black coat, black mask. 

There is no front license plate on the Mazda.
