NRP Arrests Man for Impersonating Officer

A man has been arrested for falsely identifying himself as a police officer.

Around 6:45 PM on Sunday, police were sent on an information call for service in the area of Wallace Avenue and Major Street in Welland.

Upon investigation, officers discovered that around 4:00 PM that day, a silver Dodge Nitro was traveling eastbound on East Main Street and breaking, possibly to make a turn.

A grey Dodge Charger that was behind it drove around the Nitro and parked in front of it.

The drivers both exited their cars and got into a verbal argument.

The driver of the Dodge Charger reportedly identified himself as a police officer, flashing a 'fake' badge.

At that point, the altercation ended and both parties left the area.

Forty-nine year old Ryan W. Miller was arrested and charged for Personating a peace officer.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to the NRP at 905-688-4111, ext. 1009024.

The NRP suggests that if there is a suspicion that someone is falsely identifying themselves as a police officer, ensure it is a marked police unit.

If it's not a marked unit, the emergency lights should be built in.

You're advised to turn on your emergency flashers but don't turn off your car.

If you're asked to leave the car without any reasons given, be suspicious.

If the officer is in plain clothes, ask them where they work and if you can contact their dispatch center to confirm their identity.
