NPCA Warns of Potential Flooding in Niagara

Forecasts calling for between 20 and 40 mm of rain this afternoon and throughout tomorrow.

The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority says there could be flooding in the region today and tomorrow.

Meteorologists are calling for between 20 and 40 mm of rainfall starting this afternoon and continuing tomorrow.

Authorities say between 15 and 45 mm of rainfall ended on Monday, resulting in saturated ground conditions and higher water levels in creeks and rivers.

The water is still moving through the system and water levels remain high, but are currently below critical thresholds in large bodies of water such as 20 Mile Creek and the Welland River.

Officials note the 20 to 40 mm of rainfall expected between this afternoon and tomorrow will further increase water levels, and low-lying areas can expect flooding.

Residents are advised to keep themselves, their kids and pets away from streams and creeks, as they may become hazardous.
