UPDATE: NOTL Blaze Destroys Several Businesses

Firefighters remain on the scene of a blaze in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Around 2:30 p.m. yesterday, crews were called to the scene of a structure fire at a former chicken farm near Townline Road and Carlton Street.

The fire broke through the roof of one building and spread to others.

About 60 firefighters from all five Niagara-on-the-Lake stations battled the flames into the early hours of the morning.

No serious injuries resulted from the fire.

Water was trucked in due to a lack of fire hydrants in the area, and the Thorold Fire Department provided two tankers.

Firefighters will remain on the scene for several days to address minor hot spots.

The facility housed auto shops, storage and furniture manufacturing.

It's reported that several classic cars and boats were stored there.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze is being launched today, and damage is estimated to be in the millions.

The cause of a stubborn blaze that gutted a building housing the businesses is under investigation.

Flames broke out at the site of the former chicken farm on Townline Road yesterday afternoon around 3:30.

Smoke could be seen billowing from as far away as St. Catharines.

Fire crews from the town and from Thorold, hampered by bitterly cold temperatures and brisk winds, battled the blaze for several hours.

There are no reports of any injuries
