Nine COVID-19 Cases Linked to Outbreak at School in Smithville

The Niagara Catholic District School Board says that there are now nine cases of COVID-19 after an outbreak was declared at the school on November 19th.

The school says that some of the cases are directly related to the outbreak, and others have an undetermined origin.

Two classes are now being forced to self-isolate for 14 days.

The principal and senior staff members from the school have been in talks with Niagara Region Public Health.

Since there is no widespread transmission of the virus throughout the school, St. Martin Catholic Elementary School will remain open.

Niagara Region Public Health has offered to facilitate voluntary, on-site testing for staff members who have not been tested for COVID-19 yet.

There are no plans to do group testing on students.
