Niagara Parks Power Plant ready to receive visitors

The massive copper doors of the historic Power Plant, built in 1905, will open for guests to explore " the breathtaking interior of this marvel of engineering and architecture."

Visitors will be treated to repurposed artifacts, interactive exhibits and interpretive installations and  learn first-hand how the historic plant harnessed the power of Niagara Falls to generate electricity.

The NPC says "Beyond its stunning architectural features and landscape design, the power station was one of the first in the world to undertake a major tunnel project, with water entering through the forebay and dropping 180 feet before being expelled into a 2,000 foot tunnel that emptied into the lower Niagara River, right at the base of the Horseshoe Falls."

Next year, an elevator will take visitors down to view the tunnel.
