Niagara Under Severe Thunderstorm Watch

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Niagara.

Environment Canada advises the area could see dangerous thunderstorms this afternoon heading into the early evening.

The weather office says there may be over 50 mm of rainfall and wind gusts up to 90 km/hr.

There is the potential for localized flooding, especially in areas that are urbanized or have poor drainage.

Strong wind gusts can cause damage to weak buildings, break branches off trees, overturn large vehicles and toss loose objects.

Niagara is also still under a heat warning.

Slightly cooler and less humid air is expected tomorrow, but hot and humid conditions may return on Saturday.
