Power station will open to public July 30th.

A new landmark attraction is about to open to the public!

This morning, Niagara Parks Commission Board Chair Sandie Bellows and Lisa MacLeod, Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries, attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Niagara Parks Power Station.

Beginning Friday, guests will be able to tour the former hydroelectric power plant, which was built in 1905.

The facility will showcase repurposed artifacts, interactive exhibits and interpretive installations.

The station is the only fully intact decommissioned hydroelectric plant of its period left in the world.

From July 30th to August 15th, members of the public will be able to take a tour of the station.

For the remainder of August, the facility will be open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

In September, the "Currents: Niagara's Power Transformed" night show will arrive, and the Niagara Parks Power Station will operate daily from September 3rd onwards.

In Phase Two of the attraction, which is expected to open next summer, guests will be able to take a glass elevator down 180 feet below the generator floor to explore the 2,000 foot tailrace tunnel at the base of the Falls.
