Niagara Health Concludes Internal Review Into Death of Heather Winterstein

Niagara Health says internal review into death of Anishinaabe woman completed.

Niagara Health says they have completed the internal investigation into the death of 24 year old Heather Winterstein, but the results will remain confidential.

Winterstein, a member of the Six Nations community, died in December while waiting for care at the St. Catharines Site.

Her family alleges she went to the hospital on December 9th to seek treatment for severe back pain, and was sent home with Tylenol.

She returned the next day, where family members say she collapsed and didn't regain consciousness.

Her family also says they were told she died of a Strep A blood infection.

A Coroner's investigation continues, and Niagara Health says they are co-operating as well as committing to a third party review.

The review will follow the conclusion of the Coroner's investigation.
