Niagara Falls Passes Mail-in Voting Option for Upcoming Municipal Election

Residents can choose between mail-in or in-person voting during October's municipal election.

Voters in Niagara Falls will be able to cast their ballots by mail in October's municipal election, as well as in-person.

The Standard reporting council approved the mail-in option at a recent meeting.

City staff recommended adding mail-in ballots as an option, after asking for public feedback on which methods would be most preferable.

Officials say the option offers choices for people with physical and health-related issues, as well as those concerned about the pandemic.

Staff also note council should prepare to offer alternative voting methods in case pandemic restrictions return.

Vote by mail kits can be made available to eligible voters who register to receive one.

Retirement and long-term care home residents will also receive kits, and city staff will pick them up on election day.
