Niagara Falls Council Approves Downtown BIA Budget

This despite an attempt to have it deferred to address concerns of some business owners on Queen

The move comes despite a motion by Councillor Carolyn Ioannoni they defer approval until disgruntled Queen Street business owners have a chance to present their concerns with the current leadership of the BIA to the elected members of the board.

Former Queen Street business owner Sasha Heilig addressed council outlining the concerns of some businesses on the street.

Heilig was challenged by BIA board member and city councillor Chris Dabrowski who asked why she was speaking on the issue when she sold her downtown business.

Heilig says concerns over spending, increasing levies and transparency were the reason she left, but she told council she still feels strong ties to the area

On her Facebook page Heilig writes  ”To be part of a forced membership and not have freedom of speech (they will mute you or ban you from meetings or media), and then be told you don’t get to vote on items such as budget is NOT DEMOCRACY it’s a DICTATORSHIP”
