Niagara Falls BIA Facing Bankruptcy: Councillor

Councillor Campbell also revealed Executive Director is facing threats

A $100,000 lifeline has been thrown to the Niagara Falls downtown BIA by city council.

Councillor Campbell, who is council's rep at the BIA, revealed last week it is facing bankruptcy.

A number of other plagues the BIA is dealing with were brought up, including the Executive Director facing threats, and questions as to who the Chair is.

Councillor Campbell stressed there is no Chair.

Many councillors pointed out their frustration in the large number of emails they receive from a number of people, resulting in confusion as to how to advise the group.

Councillor Pietrangelo echoed the frustration.  "Only one person, or one body, communicates with us.  Because what I'm finding right now is that we're getting communication from 3 or 4 different sides."

Councillor Strange said they should trust the word of Councillor Campbell.

Councillor Patel had a suggestion for Campbell, pointing to other BIAs that have two reps.  "And they all run smoothly.  And this BIA has a problem.  Every meeting there's a problem.  It's just not fair for you to take the heat all the time.  And they're not very nice to you, when you see the emails, they're not very kind to Councillor Campbell."

Mayor Diodati remained stedfast in his resolve the BIA needs to figure out its own problems, and council not to act as a referee.
