Niagara Falls Activates Cooling Station

The City of Niagara Falls is activating the cooling station on Victoria Avenue to combat the extreme heat gripping the Niagara region today.

The honeymoon city is activating the cooling station at Niagara Falls Public Library Victoria Branch.

The move is in response to Environment Canada's extreme heat alert for Niagara region.

The cooling station is located at 4848 Victoria Avenue.

Hours have also been extended to 7pm for City of Niagara Falls pools to combat the heat alert.

Afternoon temperatures near 31 degrees and humidex values near 40 are expected again today.

An overnight low near 20 degrees is forecast tonight and will provide a little relief from the excessive heat.

The weather agency is warning hot and humid air can also bring poor air quality forcing the Air Quality Health Index to reach the high risk category.

Experts suggest drinking plenty of water, schedule outdoor activities during the coolest parts of the day and never leave people or pets inside parked vehicles.Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.

Outdoor workers should take regularly scheduled breaks in a cool place.
