Next Phase of Emergencies Act Inquiry Starts

Experts will go over rights and freedoms in public protests

The next part of the public inquiry looking into the Liberal government's use of the Emergencies Act to counter protests in Ottawa starts this week.

It's the public policy phase, in which the Commission expects to hear from about 50 experts, who will share their perspectives on the use of the act and whether it should be updated.

A session this morning will focus on fundamental rights and freedoms at stake in public protests, as well as their limits.

In the afternoon, experts will delve into financial governance, policing and intelligence.
