New University Coming to Niagara Falls

University of Niagara Falls will open in 2024.

Niagara Falls is getting a new university.

The announcement was made this morning by mayor Jim Diodati at the Hatch building on Queen Street.

The University of Niagara Falls will welcome students in 2024, now that approval has been received from the provincial government.

Officials say the school will offer the following programs:

  • Honours Bachelor of Science – Biomedical Sciences.
  • Honours Bachelor of Business Administration – Majors in Digital Economy and Digital Marketing.
  • Master of Data Analytics – Specializations in Marketing Analytics and Operations Analytics.
  • Master of Management – Specializations in Emerging Technology and Entrepreneurship.
  • Master of Arts in Digital Media and Global Communications.

The school will be operated by Global University Systems Canada.

"This is a massive windfall for the City of Niagara Falls," said Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati. "If there was one thing on my bucket list that we had still yet to do in a big way in our community, it was this. It has been a long road behind the scenes, with many challenges, but today makes it all worthwhile. This downtown and our community will be bustling with students, new technology education and all of the economic off-spin that will come with it. Thanks to the determination of GUS, the commitment of a forward-thinking Provincial Government and a dedicated team of people, University of Niagara Falls, Canada will now be a reality."

The 10,000 student private university will be located in downtown Niagara Falls.

It will initially be located in the Hatch building, until a specific campus and residences are built downtown.

The school is expected to attract students across the globe, as well as provide a significant economic boost to the economy.

It's estimated the university will generate $291 million in Gross Domestic Product, $194 million in labour income, and $234 million in government tax every year.

There will also be more than 500 new jobs created.
