New Report Shows Lexus RX Series, Honda CR-V Among Most Stolen Vehicles in Canada

Équité Association has released its annual list of the most stolen cars in Canada.

A heads up to Honda CR-V, Lexus RX and Ford F-150 drivers.

A new report suggests these are the three most stolen vehicles in the country.

Équité Association, a non-profit that works with insurance companies to fight back against fraud, has released its annual list of the vehicles stolen most often in Canada and Ontario, with SUVs proving to be a popular target.

Bryan Gast, Vice President of Investigative Services, says this is due to global supply and demand.

He says these vehicles are stolen most often for the purpose of exporting to other countries.

He also notes thieves are very good at outsmarting technology such as push start buttons and key fobs.

There are two main ways thieves can re-program or create key fobs to gain access to your car.

One is by plugging into the onboard diagnostic port under the dashboard and the other is by intercepting the signal between a fob inside the home and the vehicle.

Gast says there is a lot you can do to prevent your car from being targeted.

"Park in well-lit areas, park in a garage if you have the ability to do that, use a steering wheel column to lock it, have a cover or lock for your onboard diagnostic port."

Here is the full list of the top ten most stolen vehicles in Canada for 2021:
