New Hospital Will Reduce Wait Times

South Niagara hospital to open in 2028

Niagara Falls city council has received another update, and overview, of the planned South Niagara hospital.

President of Niagara Health Lynn Guerriero revealed Tuesday afternoon to council it'll help reduce wait times.

"The new hospital, we are proud to say, will be able to accommodate 20,000 more emergency visits annually, 7,400 more seniors' wellness visits annually, and 77% more capacity for mental health and addictions visits."

She added the hospital is expected to open in 2028 at the corner of Montrose and Biggar Roads.

It'll be the first of it's kind in Canada featuring an Indigenous healing space and garden, as well as more beds.   "The site will have 469 beds, increasing our total number of beds in the region by 156.  The new hospital will be larger than the St. Catharines site, featuring centres of excellence in complex care, wellness and aging, and stroke."
