New Financial Measures to Support St. Catharines Residents and Businesses

Mayor Walter Sendzik says the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are placing extreme challenges on local residents and the business community.

St. Catharines City Council held a special meeting yesterday and they passed several financial measures to help relieve some of the pressure during these uncertain times. 

They include the following; 

- Deferring the April 30th interim tax installment to June 30th 

- Waiving tax penalty and interest charged until June 30th 

- Waiving water and wastewater penalty and interest charges until June 30th 

- Waiving accounts receivable penalty and interest charges until June 30th 

- Waiving charges for any cheques or pre-authorized payments returned for non-sufficient funds or payments stopped by the payer 

- Amending the 2020 final tax levy installment sates to July 31st and October 30th 

- Deferring the 2020 water and wastewater increase from April 1st to July 1st 

- Limited parking enforcement to safety-related issued (including but not limited to fire routes, accessible parking, no-parking areas and fire hydrants) until June 30th 

- Waiving payment for on-street parking, municipal parking lots and garages 

- Suspending any water service disconnections for non-payment of water and wastewater billings until June 30th 

- Waiving late fees for 2020 dog licenses 

- Waiving late fees for 2020 general business licenses.
