The building at Geneva and Church Streets in St. Catharines will have 197 units, restaurant and commercial space
A 197 unit apartment building will go up at the corner of Geneva and Church Streets in St. Catharines, now that council has approved it.
Planner Stephen Bedford, with LandX Developments, says he's been working with restaurant owner Tam Do, who also wants to put a restaurant into this.
He pointed to the importance of this for the downtown. "161 Church will implement the Official Plan policy and the urban design guideline, by creating a gateway to the downtown. This 197 unit apartment building creates a visual, prominent corner."
He adds they don't have a date yet for when construction starts.
There will be a restaurant on the top floor, but there's big plans for the bottom, too. "City hall, market square, the central library, and downtown centre are only a short walk away. The corner will be developed with a restaurant and patio, accessible a step back from the sidewalk."
Tam Do owns other businesses in town.
