NDP Leader Andrea Horwath wants Rapid Test Kits for All Ontarians

Horwath wants more than just the holiday tests sent home with Ontario students

Official Opposition NDP Leader Andrea Horwath is calling for the broad and urgent roll out of free rapid COVID tests to all Ontarians.

Horwath’s call echoes the advice coming from experts and takes on new urgency following worrying new modeling from Ontario’s Science Table.

She says the government has admitted there are more than five million unused tests in Ontario just collecting dust in storage.

In November, the province announced it would be sending a pack of 5 rapid antigen tests home with every school child in the province in time for winter break.

With roughly 2.2 million public school students in the province, that works out to around 11 million rapid antigen COVID-19 tests.

The holiday rapid testing is voluntary and some school boards are requesting parent consent before sending the tests home with students.
