Municipal Election

Two more familiar faces are running to be Niagara Falls regional councillors. Longtime former Niagara Falls MPP, city councillor and alderman Kim Craitor wants to add regional councillor to his political resume.

The 76-year-old registered yesterday to run for one of three seats on Niagara Regional council to represent Niagara Falls during the Oct. 24 municipal election.

Craitor was defeated in his 2018 Niagara Falls mayoral bid by incumbent Jim Diodati after serving a four-year term as councillor.

Prior to that, he was Niagara Falls’ MPP for 10 years between 2003 and 2013 and was an alderman for 13 years between 1990 and 2003.

Meanwhile, after 23 years as a Niagara Falls city councillor, Carolynn Ioannoni is running for a seat on Niagara Regional council.

The veteran politician registered yesterday to run for one of three spots to represent Niagara Falls at the regional level during the upcoming municipal election.

Ioannoni has been a vocal critic of Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati and his leadership, saying the mayor has not been open and transparent to council about important issues.

Nominations for the election close today at 2pm.
