Ontario's Science Advisory Table endorsing Rapid Antigen Testing in Elementary Schools
Ontario’s COVID-19 Science Advisory Table has come out in favour of asymptomatic rapid antigen testing for elementary schools.
The move comes amid calls for the Ford government to expand access to the tests across the province.
The Science Advisory Table says in areas where there are 35 or more weekly cases per 100,000 people, elementary students should be tested with a rapid antigen screening test once per week.
In areas of the province with 250 or more weekly cases per 100,000, they recommend elementary, high school students and the unvaccinated should be tested two or three times per week.
Yesterday, Premier Doug Ford defended his government's approach to the rapid tests saying 33 million rapid tests have already been distributed by his government and referenced other testing initiatives like the free five tests for students that they'll be bringing home for Christmas break.
