More and More Immigrants Choose Canada

Stats Canada figures show immigration will make up a third of the population

Canada's population is increasingly made up of immigration, and the trend isn't slowing down.

The latest data from Stats Canada for last year shows people from other countries make up almost a quarter of Canada's population, and the projection is immigrants will make up a third by 2041.

Immigration now makes up the largest portion of the population since Confederation, with more than 8.3-million people in the country who were, or had ever been, a landed immigrant or permanent resident.

Government figures show immigration is the main driver of population growth, in part because of the aging population and low fertility rates in the country.
