Centre will act as a hub for Niagara Summer Games volunteers.

The Meridian Volunteer Centre has officially opened!

Earlier today, the Niagara Host Society and Meridian Credit Union were on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony, which took place at the Pen Centre in St. Catharines.

The centre will act as a hub for those volunteering in the 2022 Niagara Summer Games, which will be held August 6th-21st.

About 4,500 volunteers will be needed for the event.

The centre, which will operate until the end of August 2022, will act as the prime spot for recruiting, training and engaging volunteers while acting as a welcome centre for residents to enquire about the games.

The Centre's first day of operations is set for tomorrow.

Until October 26th, it'll be open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesdays to Friday, before extending its days of operation from Tuesdays through Saturdays.

"We are excited to be taking this important step forward in our journey to host the Canada Games," said Doug Hamilton, Board Chair of the Niagara Host Society. "Given the crucial role that our volunteers and community are going to have on the success of the Games, we are grateful and excited to have this centralized location at the Pen Centre to support the needs of our Meridian Volunteer Program and to connect with Niagara residents."
