Man Sought After Attempted Child Abduction

Police say suspect wearing a clown mask

A disturbing attempted child abduction in St. Catharines over the weekend.

Niagara Regional police say they were called to the Pelham Street and St. Paul Crescent area of the city Sunday morning, at around 8.

They found a 9-year old boy had been walking north on Pelham, between Rykert and Antwerp Streets, when an unknown man with a clown mask approached and grabbed the boy's arm.  The suspect said "Your mom sent me, I have candy for you".  Police add the boy hit the man twice and ran off.

Police were not able to find the suspect, but the victim reported the man to be homeless.

The suspect is black, 6'3 to 6'4', chubby/muscular build, bald, with a deep low-pitched voice.  He was wearing short, dark pants, didn't have any shirt on, and wearing 2 different types of sandals.

Call police if you know anything, or have video surveillance of the area.
