Man Pleads Guilty to Transporting People Across Niagara River into the U.S.

Edwin Ramirez-Cordones faces a decade in prison

A man has pleaded guilty to transporting two people across the Niagara River into the United States four years ago.

The US Justice Department has released a statement, saying Edwin Ramirez-Cordones, 46, has entered a guilty plea in court.

Officials say he navigated a boat into Lewiston, NY, with two people he knew were not Americans.

The Justice Department adds Ramirez-Cordones knew the dock he arrived at was not a designated port of entry.

Court documents suggest he then returned to Ontario and was to be paid $8500.

He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, and a fine of $250,000.

Sentencing will take place in May.
