Police say clerk locked thief in store before fleeing

A 34-year old St. Catharines man is waiting for a future court date after a gas station robbery.

Niagara Regional police say just after 9, Friday night, they were called to a store on Queenston Street near Page in St. Catharines.

They found a man approached the clerk with some merchandise, but then threatened the clerk that he had a weapon.

The clerk fled, but locked the door before leaving.

Police add the suspect then trashed the store, and escaped.

Through the use of video surveillance, police made an arrest a short time later.

Kidus Dawit appeared in bail court charged with robbery, was released, with a future court date.
