Lots to do in Niagara for the Long Holiday Weekend

Long weekend events kick off today in St. Catharines at Montebello Park

Plenty to do this holiday weekend with the festivities kicking off today. 

The four day "Born & Raised" festival gets underway at Montebello Park in St. Catharines. 

City and Colour, Alexisonfire and the Sam Roberts Band will be there. 

Broken Social Scene and Billy Talent are also set to perform.

Niagara Falls residents are invited to "Lend a Hand" this summer and help create a work of art.

Artist Wayne Moore will be leading a collaborative art experience to engage the community in the creation of a large scale art piece that will go on display in September at the Niagara Falls History Museum.

Participants will get their hands painted by Moore and will place their prints on the artwork.

There are six dates you can "Lend a Hand" beginning tomorrow at 6 pm

Just in time for hot summer days, the City of Niagara Falls will open its five outdoor pools on June 30th.

If you're looking for family fun on Canada Day here's a list of what's happening around the region. 


Niagara Falls:

The festivities kick off with a parade starting at 11 o'clock at the corner of Victoria Avenue & Armoury Street.

After the parade, be sure to support local and enjoy a bite to eat from one of the many restaurants on Queen Street.

There will be free admission to all of the city's outdoor pools from July 1st to the 3rd.

As well on July 1st check out the Niagara Falls History Museum free of charge.

And there is free public skating at the Gale Centre from 2:15 to 4:15 on Sunday 


Fort Erie:

Head to Fort Erie for the annual Canada Day Fireworks display starting at 10 pm on Lakeshore Road between Old Fort Erie and Beatrice Street.


St. Catharines:

Celebrate in Rennie Park in St. Catharines on July 1st starting at 11 am

The City will celebrate in 2022 by  giving away 1,000 picnic in the park "Green Way" themed packs.

Residents can pre-register online to pick up one pack per household. Visit stcatharines.ca/SummerPack to register.

And enjoy free leisure swims July 1 to 3 at the St. Catharines Kiwanis Aquatics Centre, Port Dalhousie Pool, Lincoln Park Pool and Lion Dunc Schooley Pool. 


Thorold:

Head to the Battle of Beaverdams Park in Thorold for live music, food, kids entertainment and fireworks.

It all kicks off at 4:30 on July 1st.

On July 2nd , its Rock n' Blues on the Battefield starting at 2:00 with Jack deKeyzer headlining.


Niagara on the Lake:

Kick off the day with the Rotary Club Pancake breakfast in Simcoe Park starting at 8 am until 10:30.

 

Port Colborne: 

The 18th annual Optimist Club Canada Day Event is set for Friday at H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park. 

There will be food and retail vendors, children’s activities, and more.

Opening ceremonies are planned for 1:45 p.m. 

The fireworks display is planned for around 10 p.m.

Pelham: 

Canada Day Celebrations are set for Harold Black Park. The Grand Parade will travel down Haist Street from A.K. Wigg School to the park at 3 p.m.  After the parade the park will be the host to family activities and local talent on the entertainment stage.

Welland: 

Canada Day festivities take place between 2pm and 6pm at Merritt Park.  Music Performances at Merritt Park Amphitheatre are set for 7pm. The celebration will wrap up with fireworks at dusk, with a rain date scheduled for July 2.
