He has been traded to Peterborough, but he'll always be remembered in Niagara.

The IceDogs held a special ceremony for former captain Akil Thomas at the Meridian Centre, ahead of last night's game against the Hamilton Bulldogs.

Regional Chair Jim Bradley and 11 of Niagara's Mayors declared January 9th as Akil Thomas Day.

The LA Kings prospect scored the gold medal goal for Team Canada at the World Junior Hockey tournament.

He scored with just under four minutes left in the third period, which lead to Canada's 4-3 win over Russia.

Thomas was traded to the Petes yesterday, in exchange for Cameron Butler, two second round selections, a third round selection and a fourth round selection.
