MPP Jennie Stevens says more needs to be done to give people the ability to make choices about their health and family planning

St. Catharines MPP Jennie Stevens has tabled a motion to have prescription birth control covered under OHIP.

Stevens says the move would give people more flexibility to make choices concerning family planning and their reproductive health.

"I am very proud to table this motion today to ensure that everyone has the ability to make choices about their health and family planning," said Stevens. "Today's motion reflects an important step to ensure contraception is available under OHIP in Ontario. With living costs rising every day, every solution to help make life more affordable is a step we need to take."

Effective April 1st, British Columbia will become the first province to fund prescription contraceptives.

Currently, OHIP does cover some birth control for women who are under the age of 25 and don't have a private plan.
