The Hornblower’s seventh season on the Niagara River is off to a bit of a rocky start.
The popular tourist attraction opened for the first time yesterday but it has since been shut down by the province.
Mory DiMaurizio, the Vice President and General Manager of Hornblower Niagara Cruises, says they recently discovered that they do not have the Ministry’s approval to operate.
DiMaurizio says they were under the impression that Hornblower did have the necessary approval, adding several COVID-19 protocols were in place when the boats set sail yesterday.
Some of the safety measures listed on Hornblower’s website include timed ticketing, mandatory face masks, health screenings and reduced guest capacity.
In an official statement, Niagara Parks says Hornblower must comply with the operating conditions for Tour and Guide Services under the province's stage two emergency orders.
It says this includes capping tours at no more than 10 people, including tour guides.
There’s no word as to when Hornblower will be able to reopen at this time.
