Hockey Canada Says it will Stop Using Fund to Settle Sexual Assault Claims

Hockey Canada says it will immediately stop using National Equity Fund to settle sexual assault claims.

Hockey Canada says it will stop using its National Equity Fund to settle sexual assault claims.

Details of the fund came to light earlier this week as the organization continues to face scrutiny after quietly settling a sexual assault lawsuit.

The suit was filed by a woman who claims she was assaulted by eight unnamed players four years ago at an event in London, Ontario.

In a statement, the organization says effective immediately, the fund will instead be used towards "safety, wellness and equity initiatives."

The fund was maintained by membership fees across the country.

Meanwhile, the London Police Service says it will conduct an internal review of its investigation to determine whether any details were missed.
