Health Canada Authorizes First Bivalent COVID-19 Booster For Kids Aged 5 to 11

Pfizer booster approved for kids aged 5 to 11

Health Canada has approved the first "bivalent" COVID-19 booster shot for kids.

The Pfizer-BioNTech shot has been authorized for children between the ages of five and 11.

The vaccine targets both the original strain and more recent variants of the virus.

The National Advisory Committee on Immunization recommends kids with chronic health issues or weakened immune systems get a booster at least six months after they get their first two COVID-19 vaccines.

For other kids in that age group, the booster shot is more discretionary.

At the moment, only one COVID-19 booster shot is recommended for all kids in that demographic.
