Halloween Storm Named Top Weather Event for 2019

Environment Canada has released it's Top 10 Weather Events for 2019.

Environment Canada has released it's Top 10 Weather Events for 2019.

Services Specialist Chantal McCartin says the year was off to an interesting start, with a brutally cold February coming in at number four.

"It was the coldest February in at least 40 years! It was supposed to be a milder year, but because of that polar vortex that sat over Canada for six weeks, it was bone chilling conditions."

McCartin says the Halloween storm also made the list.

"At number seven we have our Weather Witch that Stole Halloween. These gusty, rainy, horrible conditions on the night of Halloween that were not pleasant for everyone from Ontario, Quebec, all the way to the Maritimes."

Port Colborne saw winds up to 129 kilometres per hour. The storm also caused major flooding in Niagara and thousands of people were left in the dark.

Here is the complete list of Canada's Top Weather Events for 2019;

1) Ottawa River flood.
2) Hurricane season - Dorian hitting the Maritimes.
3) Early snowfall in the Prairies - Calgary saw up to 32 centimetres of snow, two weeks before Thanksgiving.
4) Record cold temperatures in February.
5) Record heat in the Arctic - High temperatures year-round, even higher than Victoria, BC at times.
6) Drought conditions followed by heavy rain and flooding in the Prairies.
7) Halloween storm hitting Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes.
8) Cold spring with winter temperatures.
9) St. John River flood.
10) Forest fires in Alberta.
