GROW Truck To Feed Those in Need

Niagara Falls group wants to bring quality food to people who have problems accessing it

A Niagara Falls outreach group wants to make sure people who don't have access to food, do so, and that it's quality food.

Pam Farrell is the Executive Director of GROW, a community food literacy program in Niagara Falls, and tells us they plan to have a food truck on the road by December, to reach those who have transportation or monetary problems.

"Being able to bring the food to specific areas in the region that would really benefit.  So we call these food 'deserts' that don't have access to affordable food, or food 'swamps' that might have access to food, but it's food that you don't want to eat on a daily basis," she says.

She adds they've heard the demand is there.

"The market has caught attention from across Canada, including BC and Alberta.  But more locally we've heard from people in Welland, St. Catharines and Ridgeway that this is something that will be beneficial in a lot of neighbourhoods across the region."

She says there are many community groups to thank for their monetary support in getting the truck moving by December.
