Grocery Chain CEOs to Meet with House of Commons Committee Tomorrow

CEOs of Loblaws, Metro and Empire will testify before a House of Commons committee studying food inflation

The CEOs of some of Canada's major grocery chains will face questions about high prices and record profits from a House of Commons committee tomorrow.

MPs from the Commons agriculture committee will ask the CEOs of Loblaws, Empire and Metro whether there is a connection between food inflation and rising profits at the chains.

A report from Dalhousie University released last fall found the three companies all posted higher profits in the first half of last year compared with their five year average.

Loblaws says profits were driven by non-food items.

Experts say the committee should post more transparency on why grocers are making so much more money .
