Green Party Leader Annamie Paul is stepping down as the leader of the federal Green party following last week's election results.

The Green Party is on the hunt for a new leader.

Annamie Paul told reporters this morning she is resigning from her role as the party's leader.

Paul lost her seat in the Toronto Centre riding, and only two Green candidates won seats, which is the same number held prior to the election.

The party drew 2.3 percent of the popular vote, which is less than half of the 6.55 percent received in the 2019 election.

According to party bylaws, Paul would have had to face a leadership review within six months unless she was elected Prime Minister.

Voting in the review process was set to begin on October 26th.

Paul became the leader of the Greens in 2020, becoming the first Jewish woman and first Black woman to be elected as leader of one of Canada's major political parties.
