George Darte Resigns From Niagara Regional Council

Darte states he is stepping away for personal reasons and is asking for privacy.

Regional Council will have a vacant seat.

George Darte has announced he is stepping away from politics.

Darte has officially resigned from his position effective immediately citing personal reasons and is asking for privacy.

The longtime owner of George Darte Funeral Home was only six months away from completing his first term on council.

Regional council can fill the post, however with an election looming in just 6 months, a byelection is unlikely.

St. Catharines council recently appointed Mat Siscoe to replace the late Sandie Bellows at the region.
