Gates Calling on Ford to Address Hospital Vacancies

MPP Wayne Gates says there are 600 job vacancies at Niagara's hospitals.

A local MPP is urging Doug Ford to address the staffing crisis at hospitals.

Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates, who is the NDP's Critic on Long Term Care, says there are significant job vacancies at hospitals here in Niagara, resulting in delays for patients.

"With 600 vacant positions at Niagara hospitals, wait lists are growing and putting patients at risk. Instead of addressing the staffing crisis, Ford is pushing privatization and threatening seniors with huge fees for staying in hospital."

Ford has been under increasing scrutiny over Bill 7, which would allow hospital patients to be moved to a temporary long-term care home without their consent and could result in a fee if they refuse to move.

The Ford government says the bill would free up about 2,500 acute care beds.
