Ship in Buffalo naval park is listing

Efforts continue to save The Sullivans in Buffalo Naval and Military Park.

The iconic WWII ship began taking on water earlier this month after it sprung a leak in its hull.

A Navy architect along with officials with a marine salvage company arrived in Buffalo yesterday to try to figure out a way to save the 78 year old destroyer.

On the newly created savethesullivans.org website, it explains The Sullivan is named after the five brothers, who serving together on the light cruiser USS Juneau, were killed in action when it sank in 1942.

The site’s goal is to raise a million dollars to repair the ship that saw action in in WWII, the Korean War and the Cold War.

Yesterday, Senator Charles Schumer visited the ship saying “Today I am putting out an SOS across the federal government: Save Our Sullivans. I’m fully committed to having all hands on deck in getting the maximum amount of federal dollars we have.
