Fort Erie Growth Exciting for Mayor

Wayne Redekop proud of the over 70 business start ups

Fresh off his election win, Fort Erie's mayor is feeling quite good as he looks to the future of the border town.

Wayne Redekop calls the number of business start ups unbelievable... applauding the over 70 company owners and entrepreneurs who've started restaurants, florists, clothing stores and personal care business, during the pandemic, and refusing to give in.

"The spirit of optimism and the energy, and the commitment to success is so ingratiating, that you can't help but feel proud that these people are in your community, and they're wanting to do good things," he says.

The mayor adds it's an interesting challenge to handle the growth, in that it's a balancing act between maintaining natural heritage against new development.

But the mayor points out his biggest project is tackling the diversity and inclusion initiative.

Redekop reveals in 2006 the greatest number of refugees crossed into Canada at Fort Erie.

He says the diverse population in Fort Erie needs to be supported.  "Got a couple of new, large, manufacturers that have either put up a new facility, or are in the process of putting one up, and that will provide good paying jobs for the people of Fort Erie."
