Former Niagara Escarpment Commissioner Appoint Chair of Greenbelt Council

Norm Sterling has been appointed as Chair of the Greenbelt Council.

Sterling is a founding member of the Niagara Escarpment Commission and a former minister of environment.

He'll help guide the province on how to best grow the size and quality of the Greenbelt in order to help expand it.

The Greenbelt Council was created to advice the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing on land matters relating to the Greenbelt.

Sterling says he's excited to be appointed to the role.

"It is an honour to serve as Chair of the Council as we work towards growing the Greenbelt. I will leverage my experience to work collaboratively with our council to ensure that we are working toward protecting and growing the Greenbelt."

Currently, the province is considering ways to protect the Paris Galt Moraine and increasing the Greenbelt's footprint in urban areas.
