Ford Government Ponders New Restrictions As COVID Cases Climb

Premier has news conference set for 3:30 this afternoon

Can we expect more COVID 19 restrictions to be announced today?

Premier Ford was hunkered down with his cabinet yesterday reportedly discussing what further measures to take to stop the rising tide of new infections that are threatening to overwhelm our hospital system.

The province will release new modelling data today as the third wave continues to worsen.

Sources say the data will show that if current trends continue, we could be seeing anywhere  between 12,000 to 18,000 new infections a day by the end of May, with up to 1,800 patients in intensive care.

Yesterday, CTV asked Solicitor General Sylvia Jones if the province is considering implementing a curfew

She wouldn’t comment specifically but said everything is on the table right now.

Jones also expressed frustration at the number of people who she says are defying the province’s stay-at-home order.

All of this comes after another day of skyrocketing case counts of COVID.

Niagara Public Health reported 222 new infections yesterday, up from 174 the day before.

The province recorded over 4,700 new infections yesterday, a one day record.
