Ford Government May Delay Delivery of 2022 Budget

Pundits speculate will use budget as election platform

There is speculation the Premier may hold off releasing this year's budget until five weeks before the June provincial election.

The Ford government tabled a new bill yesterday to reduce red tape which also includes a provision allowing the Tories to bypass their own budget deadline.

In 2019, the PC's passed a law requiring the budget be tabled no later than the end of March and if that didn't happen the premier and finance minister would have to pay a fine equal to 10 percent of their salaries.

The bill tabled yesterday, by the associate minister of small business and red tape reduction, would give the government a one time exception to the deadline this year and would give the government until the end of April to bring down the spending plan.

Pundits speculate delaying the budget would make it more of an election platform and keep it top of mind for voters
