Ford Government Makes Pair of Morning Announcements

Public transit and naloxone kits on the agenda

The province says it is moving to make public transit more affordable for people across the Greater Golden Horseshoe.

The Ford government is eliminating the fare for most local transit when using GO Transit service and increasing PRESTO discounts for youth and post-secondary students

Beginning March 14th, local transit will be free for riders connecting to and from GO Transit on municipal transit systems with GO Transit co-fare agreements.

Provincial officials say this means that a Mississauga adult who commutes back and forth using MiWay and GO Transit three days a week could save $250 annually on transit expenses.

The Tories also have introduced legislation to protect workers on the job.

The Working for Workers Act will require workplaces that are at risk of a worker opioid overdoses, such as construction sites, bars and nightclubs, to have naloxone kits.

The legislation also includes the highest fines in Canada for companies that fail to follow workplace health and safety laws.
