Ford Government Launches Support for Parents Initiative

Parents will be able to receive financial help from the province, if teachers go on strike.

They could be eligible for up to $60 a day to help cover child care costs, through the Support for Parents Initiative.

It's for parents with kids under 12-years-old.

The age limit goes up to 21-years-old for those caring for someone with special needs.

The funding will also be retroactive, for qualifying parents who have already had to pay extra for child care during the 2019-2020 labour negotiations.

Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff says the Ford Government is committed to supporting parents and families.

"Hard-working parents need to know that we are there to support them in providing the best education possible for their children. We want them to know that in the stress of teacher union escalations, we have their back."
